There was about 3-4" new snow overnight. Windy with a cloud/fog cover hovering around 5500'. When the wind would stop for a while you could feel the temps rise from the green house effect. It snowed intermittently during the day, sometimes heavily, and yet it only accumulated another inch or so while I was skiing. Hasty pits showed a firming of the weak layer that sits about 17-20" deep. Hard to mod/hard on all pulls. Clean shear. The first real crust sits about 10" (4cm) below the shear on decomposing crystals (photo). Good visibility for skiing but no distance views at all. Cracking isolated to under foot and only in the more wind affected areas. No noise from the snow pack. Sluffing off of turns, but no signs of instabilities. Snow was deeper a few hundred feet below the ridge lines. Skied sheltered trees on WNW aspects. Note: Lower access from East Shore road is tough up to 3,000'-3500' as lots of bare spots in sun exposed locations. Above that it feels more like riding a bucking bronco with all of the whoopty-doos from sled traffic! The northern half of the lake has more snow down low....
