- Heavy Snowfall, Wind Loading, Cracking, Collapsing
Surprise day off of work from the storm had me out looking for terrain close to home and low angle as I would be alone for the day. I have skied this area 3-4 times this season in an effort to take advantage of the low elevation snow this season. All previous outings I did not see any signs of instability. Today however was a little different. The terrain I was in is all low angle meadow skipping (20*-25*) so I wasn't worried about avalanches. I did hear several whumpf's and had isolated cracking around my skis on the skintrack, second and third laps I heard more whumpf's on my same up hill route. Touchy snow pack right now.
