FORECASTER NOTE: It looks like there is a thick layer(s) of graupel in the snowpit wall. Graupel is hail-like pellets of snow. They tend to roll down steep terrain and pile up (or pool) where the angle lessens slightly. These places can produce avalanches until the graupel bonds which can take a day or two.
