Quick report
We headed to the Jewel looking for soft snow, mindful of recent loading. We considered going up through Aeneas Notch, but the upside down density of the most recent snow on the west aspects above Camp Misery saw us decide otherwise. Some stomping on test slopes was unreactive. We went in the direction of the weather station, digging on a sheltered N aspect at 6100ft. Here, we saw less of a pronounced density change as we did on the west aspects, with subtle, stubborn failures about 20cm down in both our CT and ECT (no propagation). Overall, skies were overcast or obscured; wind was calm except for moderate at the ridgeline. Snow was light throughout and there was maybe 2cm on the sled when we got back to it. Temps were below freezing above 4800ft. A note: plowing on the road above the lowest sled trailer lot makes for rocky towing/sledding at present. From the shooting range on, there’s good coverage.
