Quick Observation

Climbed and skied Flower Couloir and the bowl above. Some fresh snow over the past few days made for generally good ski quality. Very little recent wind effect. Did 2 tests below the Flower Couloir at ~2400m NE aspect, HS110cm - CTH24 - non planar break ~30cm down on crust for both tests. I absolutely wailed on the remainder and took extreme force to trigger the depth hoar surprisingly. Decided to proceed and did not find stability issues higher. We did skier trigger a size 1 on the depth hoar late in the day on a shallow convex roll in alpine terrain, 2 crowns formed both about 30cm - one of which had fresh tracks dead through the middle from an earlier party! Yikes. The slide ran somewhat far but did not trigger the slope below. An unsurprising release given the terrain - but surprising that the earlier skier did not trigger it - a good reminder that skied terrain can and will still slide. All in all a great day at Bow Summit with conditions that allowed some exploration yet were still within good ski quality. Cannot complain for Nov 3rd!

Avalanche Information

Skier (stationary) triggered size 1 - shallow soft slab - slid on depth hoar in alpine. Did not trigger slope below. 30cm crown - 2 crowns ~10m apart. Skier on slope (myself) was able to avoid. A skier had skied directly through the 2nd crown during this day and did not trigger it. Interesting.

Snowpack

CTH24 non planar break ~30cm down. 2 tests with identical results. Took extreme force to trigger depth hoar.
