Connection Cache

This morning the forecast team went for a quick look into Tuckerman Ravine while we had a bit of visibility, going no further than Connection Cache. No new avalanche crowns could be seen, but strong, northwest winds were actively transporting the new, light density snow. We were able to see some scouring on the higher elevations and the snow was wind textured at the top of Chute and the Headwall. 

Most of our snowpack feedback came on our walk up the TRT from Hermit Lake. In protected areas of soft, new, drifted snow, we had cracks propagating from our boots.  However, in areas that were not protected from the wind, snow was stiffer (4F+ hardness) with decreased boot penetration and no cracking or propagating. 

Visibility was decreasing and winds were increasing on our exit. 

While hiking up the TRT from Hermit Lake, sheltered areas of drifted snow presented with shooting cracks under our boots with some propagation (see video).
