Quick report

Our AIARE Level 2 course spent two days on the east side of Mt. Washington. On Monday we toured the GoS trail to track surface conditions and the development of this weekend’s new snow. We stopped at ~2,440” on a S-SE aspect off the trail. We observed total snow depth of 90cm. There was 10cm of F hardness snow on top which sat on 5cm of K hardness crust. Below this K crust we observed the remainder of Sunday’s storm with 15cm of 4F snow. Compression tests yielded failure within the new snow. CTV Q1 down 15cm below the K hard crust. Our group skied to the parking lot avoiding the breakable crust in untracked areas.
