Incoming storm system brought early obscuring skies and moderate WSW wind with strong gusts. By 1400 it began to snow lightly at the rate S-1. The temperature trend held steady just below freezing up to 8,400 feet.
Snowpack
Below and near treeline, snow surfaces remained unfrozen and soft up to 8,200 feet. Above 8,200 feet, it was cold enough last night to allow for a two to three centimeter crust to form on the surface. These surface crusts will continue to grow thicker and will begin to form at lower elevations as temperatures trend colder and the wet melt forms preserved below freeze.
Avalanche
We did not observe any signs of instability in the past 24 hours. However, we did see an old small loose wet avalanche on a west aspect of Yellow Butte at 8,100 feet.
