APU Snow Science course field day toured to the treeline on Tincan to see how much snow was piling up. It was a storm day with obscured to overcast skies and snowing all morning, heavy at times. Wind was light to moderate. Temps were at or just below freezing at the road, and in high twenties on our tour. There was 15-20cm of new snow that was little gloppy at lower elevations but dried up higher. Ski quality was good. We dug pits at 2300’ on S and SE aspects. HS: ~230cm. Layer of concern new/old interface (ECTP14 PC, CT1). We also dug a huge PST with an intent to look at the reactivity of deepest Persistent weak layers, but it was difficult to isolate the column all the way through. We ended up testing the midpack facets under the thin crust and had meh result (PST 174/230 End @ facets ~150cm down from surface).
