Solomon Gulch

Managed to find a wind protected area.  Snowpack was stable with widespread surface hoar growth that was more prominent near valley floors.  2-6 mm surface hoar was observed close to valley floors on top of average 2-6 inches of dry snow above a rain crust that went up to 1500'.  At low elevations were this rain crust existed, the upper foot of snowpack showed signs of faceting from the last 12 days of high pressure.  

Above 1500' the upper snow was not as faceted but surface hoar still existed up to the elevation were we turned around at 3500',  but had decreased in size to average 2 mm.  This area was wind protected and a good example of surface hoar distribution extending into upper elevations were the snow was previously wind protected.  Stability tests produced ECTX at 3500' W/NW.  HS > 430 cms (didnt hit ground with probe).
