Red Flags
Poor Snowpack Structure
Elevation
2438 m
Slope Angle
28°

Total height of snow was 41" (105cm). Extended column tests with no propagation. Compression tests showed a weakness at 32" (80cm) from the ground. In this location the surface snow was weaker than the facets near the ground and on a steeper slope just below the pit I was able to get dry loose avalanches in the surface facets.

Photo of dry loose faceted surface snow. Northwest aspect 8,000'.
