No signs of instability on Powder reserves, edelweiss, shamrocks, or Columbia bowls. Recent avalanche observed.
We saw no signs of instability on our tour except for a recent crown in the Black Hole. (This avalanche occurred on Dec 27th during peak loading. FC/BTAC)Snowpack
Many aspects up to 9k’ have a thin crust layer that could be sun crust or temperature/MF crust. Still skied great but could be thicker after warm weather today.
Avalanche
It looked to be a natural slide on a NE aspect in the Black Hole. About 9k’ and no ski tracks leading into it. Visible from the top of Edelweiss but not possible to get much info. It appeared to have slid on the most recent crust layer as it didn’t look super deep. (The area received snowfall since this avalanche occurred which covered evidence. This one slid on basal weaknesses and failed to the ground. -FC/BTAC)
