On the morning of March 20th, 2025 three Hoodoo ski patrollers were on a morning snow safety route on Hoodoo's backside terrain. A ski patroller in the group triggered a soft slab in 30"to 36" of wind transported snow from the previous night. The soft slab triggered a step down to a hard slab layer from the previous weekend, leaving a crown that ranged in height from 24" to over 72". Avalanche crown propagated about 400' along a convex Ridgeline. This Avalanche accelerated a on a smooth bed surface for about a thousand ft. and crossed the ski area catch line continuing another 500 ft into the out of bounds terrain between Hayrick and Hoodoo Butte. The slide accelerated quickly and had significant destructive force. One ski patroller who triggered the slide was able to escape uninjured. Widespread cracking and and soft slab avalanches stepping down into hard slab have been observed on all east-facing through Southeast facing aspects of Hulu ski area on the morning of March 20th.
