Snowpack

We dug a pit on a 33-35ish degree slope at the bottom of the east-facing slope of Summit Creek, perhaps 10 or so metres up from the Summit Lake. We measured 165 cms of total snow, with 25 cms of fresh atop a 5ish cm thick pencil-density crust, which is, in turn, sitting on a nicely consolidated finger density slab which runs in one piece right down to 8-10ish cms of facets above ground. I cleared away the snow above and below the crust in one of the shots so you can see it for yourself. Density was consistent throughout the main slab. You could see where the old crusts were, but they had all rounded down. I could perceive them when I ran a blade down through the pack, but not when I forced my hand through Karate Kid style.
