Cleveland and Feather area

guilev, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Another beautiful sunny day at the summit. Skied from the summit parking lot to Cleveland SE and then Feather Peak. Good hard ~15cm crust at lower elevations in the morning. Over 1500m there was maybe 5cm of settled new snow which was wind affected to varying degree. This sat on top of previous weeks small accumulations which have further settled. The more sheltered N aspects seems to do best and skiing was good, both on Cleveland and Feather. Elsewhere, it was very easy to find a 3-5 cm of soft to medium hardness (wind?) crust. Great corn snow on E aspects on the way out around 17:00. It is worth mentioning that some cornices have started collapsing. See attached picture, which shows part of the decent slide it triggered. The debris had many blocks the size of washing machines down across the NW glacier, the largest piece being the size of a full size truck. This is assumed to be a few days old at most.
