Dry Snow Up High!

ghelgeson, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

We found some dry snow today above 1500 m which must have fallen at the tail end of the Thursday/Friday storm. Up high around 1700 m we found 200 to 250 cm of total snow. The upper 25 cm was dry & sitting on a 10 cm crust. The upper 25 cm has been pushed around by the wind but even with pretty good visibility, we didn't see any active wind slabs. The rest of the snowpack was well settled (mostly pencil hand hardness) all the way down to the ground. We did not have any avalanche concerns today where we traveled. You *may* be able to find the odd human triggerable wind slab in extreme terrain near ridge crest, but it seems unlikely.
