Great Ski Conditions

James Minifie, Thursday 23rd March, 2023 9:45PM

Mountain Conditions Report

We spent the day in east of White Pass skiing some great snow. A crust exists below 1200m but ski conditions improve almost immediately above this. A crust also exists on steep south aspects at lower alpine elevations. We skied north facing, glaciated alpine bowls up to 40 degrees and treeline glades and found no signs of instability though we were still avoiding shallow snowpack areas on steep slopes for the most part. Cornices were large in places and some chunks had failed naturally but none pulled slabs on the slopes below. Snowpack depths were around 250cm on the glaciers we skied which is a little thin for this time of year. Many sagging crevasse bridges were present and required good visibility to route find through. The skiing was excellent in 15-30cm powder. Temperatures hovered in the -5 range in the alpine and were near zero at lower elevations.
