Cirque area

julie.morter, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Wind affect at top of treeline, but no signs of instability. Powder was knee deep in trees, dropping to boot top at tree line and down to hard wind slab if you ventured into the alpine (We stopped at a bench in the alpine). Within treeline, there was a windslab buried 15-30cm down under some unconsolidated powder. While this slab was supportive to skiing, you could break through it if you jumped. When you did break through there were no whumpfs or cracking, seemed to be localized. The storm snow on top did not consolidate today, although there was wind it didn't seem to be making a drastic difference. Most of the snow on cirque for-peak alpine terrain is now in Saskatchewan.
