Epic deep powder on Avalanche Crest. Snowing S1 for most of the day and alpine temps at -8C with winds varying from light to moderate at ridgetop from the SW. Cloud cover lying at 1800m for the day. Heard one whumpf while breaking trail @ 1900m on a 25deg, S-facing slope. Otherwise, we tracked through mostly settled right-side-up snow. At ridgetop (2100m), we dug a profile on a SW, 30deg slope. HS of 270cm. F to 4F snow on the top 60cm of HST. There's a 2mm crust mixed with facets down 32cm. An interesting weak layer. On CT, we got it to release at moderate taps, sudden planar (clean pop), twice repeated. On the way down, we did not observe any kind of instabilities, even on unsupported convexities.
