A great couple of days skiing in the Mt Brennan area.

PrayforSnow, Thursday 11th January, 2024 9:20AM
Our group spent 5 days skiing around Lyle Lakes/Rossiter Ridge from Jan 4th to 9th. In that time we saw daily snowfall amounts around 10cm with more falling the night of the 8th into the 9th. We mostly rode steep supported trees between 1400m and 2200m in the area but poked out into some open areas when the visibility allowed. As you would expect the coverage and skiing got considerably better over the time we were there, in the first day or two there was a very solid crust evident down 20cm which quickly got buried. The majority of the trip conditions were stable, we saw no signs of instability or avalanches, there was signs of significant wind effect on south facing slopes from 1700m up. Even as snow built up we didnt see a great deal of consolidation in the storm snow until the 9th when it seemed to be forming a slab and could be touchy. Skiing in the trees it didn't pose any issues. Coverage below 1300m is still low, in the trees especially. Temps were steady between -5 to -10 throughout our time there.
