Sun crust and debris on Puff daddy

Laurent G. Saulnier, Saturday 5th March, 2022 7:45AM

Skied little Sifton into the bottom of Puff Daddy. Strong solar affect on the Grizzly shoulder uptrack with snow melting on the surface. Clouds rolled in around noon as we skinned up the ridge. Skiing was good in the alpine N and NE aspects, no signs of instability. As we traversed into the bottom section on E-SE aspect around 1700m, there was a thin weak sun crust. Didn't expect it to be so bad on a E-SE aspect, but it appears the morning sun did its work on the snow. Lot of recent wet loose avalanche debris on the open section of the run (picture and pin location). Found some better snow on the shady side of the run, but widespread debris significantly limited the skiing potential. Bottom of the run was OK with heavy snow.
