Touchy storm snow to the east.

We traveled to the east side of White Pass today in search of more sheltered skiing and we were not disappointed. We found 30cm of the most recent storm snow sitting untouched by recent winds. As we tracked up the feature we planned to ski we experienced whumpfs under the new storm snow, easy hand shears, and small cookies pealing away from steep "pillow" features.. We found a safe place to dig and found the new storm snow was sitting on top of a layer of facets and small surface hoar crystals. In our profile, this interface produced easy, sudden planar results. After a discussion we decided to push on as the slab above the weak layer was quite soft and we felt it could be managed. We managed our group closely and used the less steep, more well supported parts of the feature to both ascend and descend. Overall the skiing was quite good in the new storm snow but a cautious approach felt prudent. Our feeling is that this interface below the new storm snow is a problem that is likely isolated, particularly to the more sheltered side valleys east of White Pass.
