West Nadahini creek

Yukon Field Team, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:34PM

We spent the day driving up from Haines to Nadahini , we traveled up the Nadahini west creek to the base of the glacier. We saw many avalanches on the drive up to size 3 and we moved through terrain one at a time with a lot of check-ins. Cornices and large alpine slopes look spooky and wind pillowed above the canyon approach. Once we were in the low angle moraines we had mixed riding quality with gulleys being quite deep and little high points scoured back to old snow. Old avalanches that had scoured to ground were visible in the flat light. We didn't have a lot of time so we followed our tracks back when the wind started increasing and visibly loading the high alpine. -2, moderate winds from the south east and no snow strong winds actively moving snow in the high alpine.
