We were able to trigger this avalanche today on the south side of Leahy peak in Ashcroft. The avalanche ran on an east aspect and was triggered from 12100 ft and propagated up to 12600 ft. The avalanche was triggered from where we stood on the saddle in one of the photos a soon as we skinned on to the saddle. This wasn’t an intentional trigger but might as well have been.
We found safer skiing conditions on direct South aspects on slopes around 30 deg, but anything SE had around 40 cm of 3 mm basal facets that consistently produced a ECTP 12 repeatedly on 3 tests on a SE aspect around 11800 ft. The change in snowpack for SE to S is quite significant.
