Quick Observation

With a good overnight refreeze, the day started off inverted with alpine temps at -1c with cooler air in the valley. We had clear skies and a light north wind throughout the day with alpine temps remaining below freezing into the afternoon. The freezing level was ~ 1000m later in the day. Supportive surfaces made for easy travel from the highway to the summit of Halcyon peak. (Bring your crampons!) At 1200 the snow surface softened up and we had great corn skiing from ridge top to valley bottom. We travelled extensively in the forecast region today (see second sled min) and we saw no new avalanche activity by late afternoon. We felt confident traveling in bigger alpine features but kept an eye on temps, solar input and overhead hazard as the day progressed.
