Took advantage of the bluebird day and low avalanche hazard and spent some time in the alpine. The weak layer of feathery surface hoar crystals buried on Jan 17 was found below 2000m with 20 - 30cm of snow that is developing into a soft slab. Riding conditions were firm in the alpine with 5cm of new snow over a wind-pressed surface. Temperatures remained below freezing with light northwest winds and -6.6 Profile @ 2150m West facing slope, the height of snow 150cm with a suncrust down 20cm, no results from tests.
