What a great day for learning about how the snow pack can change from one Aspect to the next. The south aspect did exactly what the bulletin said, by the afternoon it warmed up, melted/decomposed the surface hoar and became heavy in the upper 15cm resulting in CTM11 PC dn 15cm @ 2000m HS 150cm on last weeks storm snow with the predominant early season crust dn 100cm. We also observed rapid settlement around the base of trees. Then as we transitioned into an East and North aspect we noticed a much lighter snow quality and Surface Hoar crystals 3-9mm in size. CT not showing significant results (the occasional break dn 50cm but nothing consistent on the recent surface hoar layers, that look to be decomposing quickly in this warm temp gradient) HS 235 in wide spread trees at 1950m.
