Avalanche Information

Skied the big slide path in the Floe Lake Burn zone from the top. Snowpack skinning on ridge alternated between supportive settled pow, facetting snow and a thin slab on a hard (windpressed?) surface. No signs of instability outside of one isolated area where settlements and cracks were heard and seen. Winds calm and maybe 2-3cm of new snow. -8 at the top, overcast. First turns in slide path were good, with lots of sloughing from the facetted surface snow. 200m down, rider triggered a slab on a convexity in the sidewall of the slide path. 30-50cm crown, 20m wide but entrained a lot of snow and ran 300m or so with a decent powder cloud due to the facets. Seems to run on interface between storm slabs. No involvement. Great turns to the bottom. Runout bears debris of a large size 3 event from earlier in the season.
