Quick Observation

Toured up to the saddle on Ursus Minor’s South Ridge and did a lap on the ridge, then skied the skier’s leftmost Hospital Chute. Wind was L-M consistently at treeline and above, with strong gusts above treeline. Wind affect was evident on the ridge, with slight scouring.

Snowpack

Hand shears in wind-loaded areas in the alpine showed two distinct interfaces. 4F- down to 20cms, then 1F- down to 50cms. Hand shears were stubborn. Did a few small test slope tests, jumping on cornices on small, low consequence slopes. Cornices themselves were touchy, but very little wind slab was observed as a result of cornice failure.
