Quick report

Cracking
isolated

I went for an enjoyable walk in the Apgars.

  • We did not find evidence of a storm slab problem on the southerly aspects we traveled and felt comfortable skiing steep gladed terrain.
  • Three inches of moist, dense snow fell at the trailhead overnight (3900 feet).
  • There was around 12+" of settled storm snow from the past few days at 6300 feet. This snow was right-side up, with a thin melt-freeze crust sandwiched in the middle.
  • The snow surface showed no signs of recent wind effects in this typically windy location.
The surface slab only produced minor cracking several inches in length in areas open to the wind.
