- <p>There is no slab now, but red flag for the future. It seems like last year we perpetually checked this box, but never got enough of a load to make things exciting. Hoping we get one this year.</p>
Pit is a composite of 2 pits done approximately 1/4 mile and 200 vertical apart, both on NE facing slopes. As stated above, all layers are faceted and faceting to one degree or another. Basal facets were the weakest, but varied between the two pits. Facets at the lower elevation were only 1 mm, while at the upper pit they were larger 2 mm depth hoar. Lack of a slab limited test results, but eventually everything kind of fell apart on the basal facets. Short story is there is not shortage of weak snow if we get a load.
Snowpack
Just out for a quick look at snow around Brighton. Not really enough snow for skiing, but just right for faceting. Although the snow was not as weak as I had expected -- its still mostly supportable and hasn't gotten to the sandbox stage -- there wasn't a single layer in the snowpack that has not faceted to one degree or another (see snowpit below).
