Overall, upper snowpack was F hard from surface to base with no identifiable crusts on an eastern aspect. Base consisted of a 3cm thick 1-2mm facets over ground in this specific test site. Intention was to asses distribution, depth and reactivity of basel facets with recent Gizzard Blizzard load. CTs provided uneven, mid-pack fractures (RP), while ECTs pointed towards consistent propagation propensity near the ground. Tests showed low strength and high propagation potential. Isolated cracking was observed on wind affected surfaces (F- to 4F) between 9,800’-10,200’ on eastern convexities. Collapsing was noted in valley bottoms and not observed on slope. No observed releases or active wind loading/scouring.

Clear skies Winds were calm with sporadic Northerly winds around 10-10,300’ by 3pm. 25-28°F at 10,000’ with no major sun affect on surfaces and strong temp gradient in shade. Trees/ alders held accumulation in sun/shade.

Snowpack

Surface consisted of widespread 1-4mm surface hoar up to 9,500’ on east aspects in wind sheltered terrain. Decomposing PP (F hard) of 1-2mm were present on most surfaces above 9,500’. Thin suncrust was present on minor southern tilts lower in valley 9,200’. Ski/boot pen: 25cm/50cm. *See Snowpilot for details*
