Started our ski tour with the left side of Chicken Bones where we dug a pit, east facing 6500’ and -5°C with a light N wind at 11:00am. Results were ECTN25 50cm down and seemed to line up with everything in the forecast discussion. Made our way to Kona and Big Trees where we found great snow and a fair number of tracks. No signs of instability all day until we got to the wind funnel saddle on the way back to Ghoulie. The wind blown snow was soft but as I veered off the skin track toward the north facing slope I triggered a significant whumphing collapse and the snowpack cracked in about a 5 foot radius around me. There were all the signs of wind affected snow that was mentioned in the forecast so I figured I might find some instability over there. Also noticed a slight sun crust at the end of the day.
