Quick Observation

Not as much wind effect as we expected in the Crowsnest today, although the wind did seem to be picking up quite a bit out of the south west as we rode out around 3:30. It felt like winter up there with temperatures around -9C. We dug a profile on an east aspect at around 2100m and found about 30cm over a hard crust. The uppermost 20cm was quite low density and blew around easily with the wind. There were some lower crusts in the snowpack as well. We saw numerous small size 1 loose dry avalanches but no slabs or cornice falls. With all signs pointing to decreased hazard we decided to check out some steeper north facing alpine lines and found some good riding there.
