Travelled in to Hillman's around 10am. We were the first party into zone today and conditions were consistent with other the other observations from this same date and location. As we expected, a lot of isolated pockets of wind drifted snow. No major signs of concern low in the line and none of the snow we found had formed a cohesive slab. We moved into a sheltered area below the dog leg to have a quick discussion about what we had been seeing, how we were all feeling, and a turn around point. We had already written off any start zones. Shortly after moving out of sheltered area, a shooting crack extend from my ski seen in the photo below. This continued with each step and went from a small isolated problem to an indicator of what we would see further up the line. At this point we all made a quick transition and skied variable conditions back to the car.
