Quick report
Went up to Leavitt Lake today with the intent of observing the overnight snowfall, look at the snowpack, and if the snow looked stable to get some downhill runs in. Got into area at 9:30. Observed 14” of new snow. Sky was clear, ambient air temp was 10*F, and winds were consistently 5-10 mph throughout the day from the SW with gusts up to 20mph at the lake elevation. Observed winds in excess of 40mph at above the treeline. Southerly aspects are still very exposed due to the high winds. Snowpack tests revealed progressive compression through the upper layers but a pretty stable snowpack 80cm and below despite the faceted layer at the base of the snowpack. Skinned up a couple fingers towards leavitt peak but stayed in the treeline. Skied down ENE facing slopes just below 30 degrees. Kept it safe, had a good time
