Quick Observation
Punchable crusts at and below treeline, saturated snow, and poor visibility made for a character building kind of day. However, good coverage from the road to the lazy boy ridge.
Weather
Below 1900m, raining all day with brief breaks. Moderate South-West ridgetop winds. Very poor visibility in open terrain from fog and flat light.
Snowpack
Good coverage at the road, about 50cm. Below treeline, surface layer was punchable rain crust above 50cm of saturated snow. At 1650 in the boulder field, hand shear failed with moderate pressure 45 cm down on a crust. At treeline, rain crust was more supportive with a similar saturated snow layer. Broke my powder baskets punching in an out of the crust :'( At about 1800m, the rain crust thinned to firm storm snow.
