Below treeline, surface layer was punchable rain crust above 50cm of saturated snow.
At 1650 in the boulder field, hand shear failed with moderate pressure 45 cm down on a crust.
At treeline, rain crust was more supportive with a similar saturated snow layer. Broke my powder baskets punching in an out of the crust :'(
At about 1800m, the rain crust thinned to firm storm snow.
