Quick Observation
Spent the weekend at Cameron Lake hut and had a mixed bag of weather. Came in in rain on Friday with snow overnight and during the day Saturday. We went up Summit Knob Saturday and Mount Rowe Sunday. Travel below treeline to Summit Knob was rugged with lots of open creek crossings, but decent enough coverage to ski at treeline. Pinwheeling noted. Approach to Mount Rowe had better coverage than expected. We stuck to a mellow slope for the uptrack and descent. Slopes were pretty wind hammered. One member of our group found ski crampons helpful. Route to the summit was bare with icy sections. Surface snow was slippery on descent, causing sluffing. Half our group did Forum Ridge on Saturday and reported getting good turns in. On Saturday snow pack was saturated. Frozen overnight Saturday, with spring like conditions by Sunday afternoon.
