Glacier crest to Asulkan valley

Triggered a 1.5 slab avalanche on our way down from glacier crest to the asulkan valley. We dug a pit under the ridge and had a few results. CT H28, sudden planar fracture down ~65cm and ECT showed a failure (fracture but didn’t propagate) at H26 with the same layer down ~65cm. We rode down trying to stay in the trees and avoid convex rolls but low visibility made it hard. Got surprised by a little roll and the first skier triggered a slab. He was able to get behind a tree to avoid being caught in the avalanche. In general, we found that the snow conditions were changing rapidly as we were going down, probably due to the rising temperatures. The red X on the picture shows the trigger point.
