Quick Observation

We observed a little bit of everything today. Rain below 1500 m this morning with light snow above. As the day progressed the freezing levels climbed to near 2000 m and the clouds opened up for some sunny periods. At treeline we found some good skiing with 10 to 20 cm of dry snow over the late March crust. The top 5 cm very quickly became moist on sun exposed slopes. Conditions below 2000 m were quite heavy and wet. Although we did not observe any avalanche activity we suspect that in steep terrain small moist slabs would have been possible to trigger in the afternoon. Moderate westerly winds were observed throughout the day.
