Quick report

Low expectations and low aspiration, mostly out for a walk and some views. Surface hoar 1cm crystals. N/E aspects had really thin surface crust over about 10cm of unconsolidated, cold, dry snow observed via hand pits. We dug a shallow pit on NW aspect 5100’. 100cm total depth, very stout crust down 50cm. Cold dry snow over top of that with the thin crust and surface hoar. Traveling on W aspects even in the afternoon more or less awful. Sun cooked and dense crust. No ski penetration. We didn’t see much to suggest instability in the surface snow, but we didn’t test out anything at higher elevation because lower slopes were in generally poor shape. We decided to descend on a shaded NW aspect to the out track, but somewhat tough going with the ever-present crust.
