Quick report
Quick tour up Mazama ridge and down into the back bowls. Wind slab was small but noticeable at the ridge line. Performed periodic hand shear tests on the 12/7 interface on small, wind loaded convexities when walking around with no definitive results. The 12/7 was buried about 8-12” under the surface as new snow was actively falling. No cracking observed.

Light snow transitioned to heavier over the afternoon as snow rates increased towards an inch an hour. Light winds from the south/southeast and mild temperatures kept the snow wet. Freezing level sat at 4000’ throughout the day
Snowpack
New snow amounted to about 2” upon arrival on top of a sun crust that varied with aspect. Our weak December sun didn’t have much effect on anything but southerly facing slopes. Near ridge line and in some open areas on the western side of the ridge, wind loading was visible. The only noticeable slab-like feature was at the ridge top.
