Wind loaded slopes showed signs of instability with slabbing. New snow was at least 2 inches that was exponentially greater on wind loaded slopes given the windy conditions. White out conditions, wind >20 mph, snowing consistently Traveling with some caution but may have been a bit too aggressive going through a wind loaded slope that in retrospect could’ve been a turn around point Most slopes were stable, only concern was the wind loaded SE aspects especially with warming temps
Avalanche
We were climbing St Helen’s on 4/8 and observed and triggered avalanche activity on SE wind loaded slopes. Slabbing and consolidation occurred as the temperatures rose throughout the day. Saw a few natural avys and triggered one at ~7500ft when crossing a slope that resulted in a 6-12in crown that was about 30ft wide. 40-45 deg slope that ran into a flatter spot. Luckily no one was caught.
