From the Kangaroo drainage, we ascended the NE aspect of Pica Peak on Friday 4/26 approximately 2pm up to 7000’. We traveled through predominantly solar aspects but observed good stability on the way up. Half way up, upon getting into the chute, we skinned through a steeper section with aspects that reached 50+ degrees and we triggered a very small wet loose layer about 8” deep. Throughout the climb, we heard a dozen or so loud sluff falls off the north solar aspects shedding high above on Pica peak triggering small slides. Plenty of wet loose avalanche debris at the base of these cliff perimeters. We continued up to the base of Pica where we descended the same route through the chute. We skied the NE aspect out into the drainage. Upon transitioning we heard the loudest release yet off of Pica. Focusing our attention back to the chute we came from minutes prior, we observed a large wet avalanche ~D2/D3 in motion beginning from the upper bowl and through the entire chute.
