Quick report
- Cracking
- specific
- Collapsing
- widespread
We were seeing regular cracking propagating from kick turns, and easily triggering storm slabs atop small convexities. As we exited the trees into an open bowl at 4800’ on a NE aspect, we triggered a large snowpack collapse and the resulting wumph was shockingly loud. This made our decision to stick to the trees easy. Zone we were skiing was somewhat sheltered from the active winds higher and on more southerly aspects. Noted less precipitation than expected through the morning but picked up substantially in the afternoon.
Avalanche
Intentionally triggered several storm slabs on top of small convexities, est 16” slab depth depending on location. Storm slabs were not very cohesive nor running far but increasingly easy to trigger as the day went on.
