Rapid loading and cracking were noted along the ridgetops from moderate westerly to northwesterly winds with shallow Wind Slabs forming rapidly. HN - 8000’ and above 10 by 0900 with an additional 10 cm thru the day. Below 8000’ approximately 5-10 cm. Wx- broken to overcast skies, wind Westerly 20-35 mph, Gust 64 mph, temps upper teens to low 20’s. Precipitation S— to S. Scattered snow showers with occasional heavy squalls. Caution - high Stability decreasing along upper elevation wind-affected ridges and peaks. Elsewhere Loose Dry on 35 degrees and steeper.
Avalanche
Cold, low-density snow is slow to bond to the old snow interface, combined with moderate winds, was producing rapid loading on East aspects at ridgetop and crossloading on N-NE and SE-S aspects. Elsewhere the snow was unconsolidated with no slab propagation.
