we toured out to castle peak this afternoon to check on the snow conditions post east wind. we found an expected mix of snow conditions and obvious wind damage and scouring. soft cold snow still existed in the most protected of areas. a mix of old boiler plate ice, new wind deposits, wind scour and crusts were on the main ridge route. south faces below the cliff bands held a few inches of soft sun warmed snow above last week’s thick supportive crust.
