Warm Lake Summit

Quick report

The day started off cold, as low as 6F degrees and warmed to about 30F. Wind was calm. The sun felt very warm almost from the get-go. We traveled between 7k and 8400ft . Despite a lack of snow in over a week, we still found the snow to be cold and soft on N aspects. Snow, especially on S aspects, had developed a sun-crust, but softened up some by the afternoon. We traveled out of avalanche terrain for most of the day and experienced no signs of instability. Later in the day we ventured into steeper terrain and observed a number of old avalanches and their debris on steep NE-facing slopes, but again experienced no signs of instability during travel. At 7k feet on a N/NW aspect HS was 60cm; the top 30cm of which was sugar snow above the rain crust.
