Quick report
We left the trailhead at 10 am and conditions were firm. Sleds were overheating. The solar aspects and flat areas had surface melt by noon. Temps were warm and winds were calm in the lower terrain. Light west winds were felt as we made our way up to Lola but we never made it to the ridge. We dug a pit at 7000 feet on a N aspects in a wind protected area that held cold snow. The snow depth was 70-80 cm in this area. As part of our Motorized Avalanche course we performed 7 shovel tilt tests and one had results at 66 cm where the snow went from F to 4F below a surface crust. As forecasted we observed a variety of surface snow conditions from breakable crust to firm. Open creeks and shallow snowpack made for cautious riding.
