Quick Observation

The avalanches were BIG, BAD and SCARY in the Crowsnest today! Many had been triggered by cornices and had started as storm slabs then stepped down to the deep persistent late Nov rain crust (which is 1-4m deep in the alpine and in fan features). One notable avalanche that failed on this layer was a size 4 and was 600m wide and ran just under a kilometer in length! The hazard was so high with all these very recent slides that we avoided all overhead hazard and didn't even feel comfortable poking into the bottoms of the bowls where these avalanches had potential to run into.
